Mother likes a quickie on the dining room table. She can see the new abstract oil, the play of light on its deep textures. She has a strange feeling that something is watching her from the hollows in the painting.
I do really want to share this blog with friends. I know you have plenty of followers already who don't care about this as much as I do. But is the word rapist really that important to you? It doesn't serve the joke. And it doesn't make this blog better. So ... can you fix it? Please?
Hi Anonymous. Sorry you feel you can’t share the blog with friends because of the rape references, but are you sure they’d be OK with all the rest of the child abuse, suicide, cancer, murder and abortions?! I’m aware that I play around with a lot of “sensitive” subjects here on MFD, but for me (and I suspect others) the humour comes exactly from this juxtaposition of childhood innocence with all sorts of shocking and tasteless subject matter.
Rape always seems to be the most controversial subject I touch on, and perhaps understandably. Thankfully, it’s not something that’s ever affected my life but, then, rarely have any of the other topics. I don’t necessarily think MFD makes fun of rape, however. It recognizes that it’s a pretty horrendous thing – which is precisely why it’s occasionally referenced here, in the context of life’s horrors.
The whole blog is also extremely tongue-in-cheek. I don’t set out to genuinely upset, trouble or alienate people. In a twisted way, I rather hope to achieve the opposite. MFD exists simply to give people with a dark sense of humour a laugh once or twice a week, nothing more. Sometimes I seem to get the mixture right; other times, I admit it’s a bit misjudged. That’s the reason I don’t go back and remove entries... I fall out of love with most of them so quickly, that it could turn into an endless exercise in self-editing.
Hope that explains why I’ve not removed the entry you mention. Thanks for the comments.
No to censorship! A reader who finds a post they can't cope with should take that insight and discuss it in a safe supportive environment with a trained counsellor. Meanwhile, please don't ever mention a priest, minister, pastor or similar...
Ross, thanks for the explanation. This is your blog, and your space, and I still usually get a good laugh here whenever there's a new post.
I was glad to see that I was not the only reader who was taken aback by the post in question. I think the responses you received indicate that there was indeed something differennt about that particular post, something that seemed to cross the blurry line between creepy-but-funny ... and just plain creepy-and-offputting.
But again, this is your space, and I respect that. Thank you for the respect you showed for readers like me in taking the time to thoughtfully respond.

Dad's name is Norman....
Dad has Topsy's eyes. Perhaps he is covering the peephole because he saw what she saw.
The peep hole looks into the dining room, Dad is a strange one!
Phibes,
This side of the peep hole is indeed the dining room, but what is on the other side?
That is the question! Hopefully daddy dearest will show us one day!
Daddy needs to get some new hobbies!
Sadly, the other side of the peep hole is in the hallway facing the coat hooks!!!

Masterful. A triumph!
The picture is made with Dad's own blood and feces.

Yeah, especially one who turns out to be a rapist.
You should make one about losing virginity, it's a nice topic
